CDU's Merz Seeks to Incentivize Digital Health

German CDU Leader Friedrich Merz has called for more financial incentives for the use of electronic patient records.

According to Merz, it would be a clever move to give people an economic incentive to use the healthcare system more efficiently, as he stated in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”. For instance, insured individuals could decide whether to put aside data protection concerns and fully utilize the electronic patient records, which have been introduced for a long time.

Merz added, “If so, they would, for example, pay ten percent lower health insurance premiums. The advantage would be that data usage would take center stage and we could modernize the system.
