Germany’s CDU Secretary General Warns of Polarization Threat

Germany’s CDU Secretary General, Carsten Linnemann, has urged the federal government to avoid public disputes and thereby prevent the Alternative for Germany (AfD) from achieving greater success. In an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, Linnemann expressed concern over the AfD’s rising popularity in eastern German states, which he views as a precursor to potential growth in the western regions as well.

According to Linnemann, the AfD exploits every internal dispute within the coalition, every economic downturn and every negative news story to its advantage. He warned that the polarization in the country is a serious threat, but the CDU is prepared to counter it.

Linnemann emphasized the importance of responsibility, stating that it has never been greater than it is now. To build trust with the public, he advocated for a united stance by the coalition, citing this as the first step in the right direction.
