German Politicians from the Grünen Party Express Concerns over Julia Klöckner’s (CDU) Candidacy for the Office of the President of the German Bundestag.
Former Grünen Party Chair Ricarda Lang told the “Spiegel” that the sought-after person for the position should be one who unites rather than divides and reacts with composure, but determination, as anti-democratic forces grow louder. Lang expressed doubts as to whether Julia Klöckner, the CDU politician, meets these requirements, citing the past years’ observations. Lang expects the CDU politician to convince democrats in parliament and beyond, from the very first day, of the opposite.
Sven-Christian Kindler, the former Chief of the Grünen Party’s Fraction, criticized Klöckner’s candidacy, stating that as the current CDU Treasurer, she would be responsible for auditing reports on party financing as the President of the Bundestag. Kindler argued that it is grotesque for Klöckner to review her own reports, citing significant conflicts of interest. He claimed that this would damage the credibility of the second-highest office in the Federal Republic of Germany.
