The leaders of the coalition parties CDU, SPD and CSU have signed the coalition agreement for their future black-red federal government in the Gasometer in Berlin-Schöneberg on Monday. Prior to this, the SPD, as the last of the three partners, presented their ministerial portfolio for the upcoming cabinet. The Social Democrats are planning a comprehensive rotation on the government bench compared to previous years, with the exception of Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. On Monday evening, outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will be bid farewell with a Great Taps and he has chosen “Respect” by Aretha Franklin and “In my Life” as well as an excerpt from Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos as music. On Tuesday, CDU leader Friedrich Merz plans to be elected as the new chancellor by the Bundestag. In the first round, he needs the majority of all members of the Bundestag, which amounts to 316 votes. Union and SPD together have 328 seats.
