CDA Leader Calls for Urgent Reform of Citizen's Basic Allowance

German politician Dennis Radtke, leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Workers (CDA), has called for the German government to swiftly reform the country’s social security system, known as Grundsicherung. In an interview with the Rheinische Post, Radtke expressed his views on the current debate surrounding the Bürgergeld, a new social welfare system.

According to Radtke, the government should prioritize the value of work in the reform of the Grundsicherung, citing the importance of fairness towards those who work hard every day. He emphasized the need for clear incentives for employment, improved job placement services and a balance between support and expectations.

Radtke also addressed criticism from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), stating that the state has a responsibility to help those in need, including those struggling with addiction, physical or mental health issues. He urged the government not to neglect these individuals in the reform process, but rather to provide the necessary support.
