Cash is King!

A significant portion of Germans are choosing their holiday destination this year primarily based on the price level, according to a survey commissioned by the Postbank, reported by the Welt am Sonntag.

Forty-two percent of respondents plan to travel to places where prices are lower than in Germany, while only 35.6 percent consider this factor irrelevant. For families with children, the cost level is particularly decisive, the study found. The survey also inquired about how travelers pay at their destination, revealing a continued preference for cash: nearly half, 48.1 percent, still use it on the go, a slight increase from the previous year, when 46 percent did.

However, Germans are increasingly using contactless payment methods, where a card or a mobile phone is held near a payment terminal. Over a third, 34.1 percent, use this method, a significant increase from the previous year, when 17 percent did. For 24.5 percent, contactless payment has even become the preferred method for their holiday.
