German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed optimism after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Geneva, stating that the Iranian regime has shown a willingness to engage in serious talks to resolve the crisis in the region.

The German foreign minister, along with his French and British counterparts, held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtchi in Geneva, where they discussed the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. Wadephul emphasized the importance of preventing a further escalation of the crisis and making progress through negotiations.

The region is in a highly critical situation and the key objective is to avoid a further escalation and continue with talks, the minister said. He added that the meeting left a positive impression, with the Iranian side showing a willingness to discuss all crucial issues.

The European powers consider it essential to be involved in the process, but Wadephul stressed that the United States should also be a part of the negotiations and solution. The German foreign minister expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear program and emphasized the significance of ensuring the security interests of the state of Israel, which will be prioritized in future talks.
