Can Berlin Prevent a War?

German politician and Vice President of the Bundestag, Omid Nouripour, has called on the German government to take a more active role in de-escalating the situation in the Middle East.

In an interview with the Funke-Mediengruppe, Nouripour emphasized the need for maximum restraint from all sides to break the cycle of violence, protect the civilian population in Israel and Iran and pave the way for diplomatic solutions.

The Iranian-born politician urged the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, to use all diplomatic means at her disposal to prevent a further escalation of the crisis.

Nouripour highlighted the real threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iran and reminded that the destruction of Israel has been a fundamental principle of the Iranian state since 1979. He also acknowledged Israel’s right to defend its existence and security.
