A leading representative of the German Construction Industry Association (HDB), Tim-Oliver Müller, is urging a swift government formation and a clear focus on economic and industrial policy following the German federal election. According to Müller, speaking to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, a massive task lies ahead of the parties and it may be the last chance to steer the course in the right direction.
What is needed now, Müller emphasized, is a swift government formation, a new federal budget and a strong concentration on a clear economic and industrial policy. “The construction industry, with its significant contribution to the country’s GDP, is a key driver of growth and a fundamental pillar of a new growth concept” the association’s chief said. “For this to succeed, a strong construction ministry is required, one that launches a billion-euro investment program to modernize the industrial location, provide housing and also restore the country’s defense capabilities.”
Bureaucracy reduction and simplified building processes are also part of the equation, but rapid growth can only be achieved in the short term if funds are made available now, the HDB chief stated.
