Businesses Should Know Reserve Soldier Status

Germany’s leading industry association, the DIHK (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammer), is advocating for businesses to be informed about employees who also serve as reserves in the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces).

Peter Adrian, President of the DIHK, stated in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag” that the current geopolitical climate presents “a challenge for the entire society”. He affirmed the industry’s commitment to supporting the German government’s efforts to bolster national defense capabilities.

Adrian emphasized the need for businesses to proactively prepare for potential scenarios, including knowing which employees are reservists and might be called up for service. “We need to know: Who in the company is a reservist? Who could be drafted?

Discussions have already taken place with the government regarding business preparedness and the management of reservist-related matters. The DIHK has indicated its willingness to act as a coordinating body across its 79 member chambers nationwide to facilitate this process. The organization aims to support governmental initiatives related to national security and defense while ensuring the continuity of operations across various industries.
