Fire Razes Three Apartments in Wermelskirchen City Center, Injuring Ten
In the early hours of Saturday, an unknown number of individuals are suspected of setting fire to three multi-family dwellings in the city center of Wermelskirchen, prompting the evacuation of 40 residents and the hospitalization of ten others, according to a statement from the Cologne Police on Saturday evening.
The blazes, which occurred on Friedrichstraße, Oberer Waldstraße and Telegrafenstraße, left the affected buildings uninhabitable for the time being. The fire in the Keller of a multi-family dwelling on Friedrichstraße did not result in any injuries, while a more severe blaze in a building on Oberer Waldstraße, with 16 reported residents, damaged the entire top floor and sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries.
A witness came forward, describing two male individuals in their early to mid-twenties, seen on an e-scooter, around 4:15 am. The Cologne Police are urging the public to provide any additional information that may aid in the investigation.
