German politician Alexander Dobrindt, the leader of the CSU’s Landesgruppe, has sharply criticized the AfD’s ban proposal, which is set to be discussed in the Bundestag next week.
“I hold the ban proposal for a severe mistake”Dobrindt told the Rheinische Post’s Saturday edition. “A ban proposal is water on the AfD’s mill, that one wants to remove the party from the political competition with other means than open confrontation in elections and parliaments.”
Such a ban debate would give the AfD new opportunities to stage itself as a victim. “This staging has already contributed to the AfD’s additional mobilization in the past years. I am convinced: one cannot ban the AfD, one must outcompete it”the CSU politician said.
