German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach Faces Backlash on X Network Over Foreign Interference Claims
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has sparked controversy on the social network X after warning of alleged foreign interference in the country’s elections. The minister commented on the announcement by X CEO Elon Musk that he will publicly discuss the upcoming week with AfD chairman Alice Weidel. Lauterbach wrote: “Foreign capital supports the propaganda of a party that wants to destroy democracy in Germany. This open form of election meddling is a breach.”
However, many users confronted him with real problems that fall under his responsibility. One commenter said: “Good morning, Minister Lauterbach, I had to pay 13 euros in the pharmacy today because the Asthmaspray Salbuhexal, which is made in Germany, is not available. This has been the case for months and will be for the next few months! I had to switch to a Spanish product and pay for it in a German pharmacy. I have COPD and rely on these medications. If I quote what the pharmacist said, I can already put on my bathrobe. Maybe you should focus on the really important things, in my opinion!”
Other X users confirmed the described problem. Another commenter said: “I accompanied a few Christmas parties from clinics. I can never repeat the opening speeches.. only so much, Minister Lauterbach, people hate them!”
The minister received little support from X users. No statements from Lauterbach are recorded from the Corona era regarding the role of “foreign capital” and other actors.
