Bremen Falls Freiburg Seal Easy Win

SV Werder Bremen suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to SC Freiburg in a Bundesliga match played at the Weserstadion. The contest saw a relatively even start, with both teams showing attacking intent but also demonstrating vulnerabilities in defense.

The turning point arrived in the 31st minute when a penalty was awarded to Freiburg after the ball struck Puertas’ arm, following a challenge from Eggestein. After a VAR review, referee Timo Gerach confirmed the decision and Grifo confidently dispatched the spot-kick into the right corner.

Grifo nearly added a second before halftime, hitting the crossbar with a powerful strike. The first half concluded with Freiburg holding a deserved lead.

The visitors extended their advantage in the 54th minute when Adamu capitalized on a Grifo pass, leaving Friedl behind to slot the ball past goalkeeper Backhaus. Bremen had an opportunity to pull a goal back via a penalty awarded for a handball by Makengo. However, Schmid’s subsequent penalty was easily saved by Freiburg’s goalkeeper, Atubolu.

The match was sealed for Freiburg in the 75th minute when Coulibaly inadvertently steered the ball into his own net after Backhaus had made a save from Scherhant. Höler further missed an opportunity to extend the lead, failing to beat Backhaus.

The result leaves Freiburg in sixth place in the Bundesliga table, while Bremen currently occupies 13th position.

Elsewhere in the league on the same day, Augsburg lost 4-1 to Mainz, Hoffenheim was defeated 4-1 by Bayern Munich and HSV secured a 2-1 victory over Heidenheim.
