Spanish Football Icon Xabi Alonso to Take the Helm at Real Madrid
Real Madrid has officially confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the new head coach of the team, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti, who will take the reins of the Brazilian national team. The Spanish football legend has signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2028 and is set to make his debut on the sidelines at the upcoming Club World Cup.
According to reports, Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso’s former club, is to receive a transfer fee for the coach. Alonso has a strong connection with Real Madrid, having played for the team earlier in his career. He will now return to the club where he won numerous titles as a player, including the Champions League.
As the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen since 2022, Alonso led the team to its first-ever Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal in 2024. Prior to his coaching stint, he had a successful playing career with clubs such as FC Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, where he is now set to take the reins as the head coach.
