The US has launched a larger military operation against the Houthi in Yemen, according to a statement by President Donald Trump on Saturday. The efforts, which include airstrikes on their “bases, leaders and missile defense” aim to restore the freedom of navigation in the adjacent waters, Trump said.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump accused the Houthis of leading an “unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism against American and other ships, aircraft and drones.” The fighters, according to the President, have hindered international maritime trade in the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Meanwhile, explosions have been reported from the capital city of Yemen, Sanaa. Further information is to be provided shortly.
