German Social Democratic Party’s General Secretary Matthias Miersch has maintained a neutral stance regarding potential special funds for defense and infrastructure. “We are just at the beginning of the negotiations and we have agreed to keep the confidentiality” he said in the RTL/ntv’s “Frühstart”.

However, it is clear that more money needs to be allocated for Ukraine, without playing the goods against each other. “We also have an enormous investment demand and we cannot gain acceptance by only investing in defense. Therefore, it needs to be thought through together” he stated.

Regarding possible decisions of the German Bundestag in its previous composition, Miersch refused to comment, saying “These are typical and nice journalistic questions, but I kindly ask for understanding. The paths we are discussing now, we are discussing them first among ourselves with CDU, CSU and then we will consider how to implement the whole thing.
