BREAKING: Münich Mayhem Sparks Merkel's Successor to Demand Radical Political Shift

After a Afghan citizen rammed a car into a Green party demonstration in Munich on Thursday morning, injuring at least 28 people, the CDU’s chancellor candidate, Friedrich Merz, has called for political measures. “Something must change in Germany” he wrote on the platform X. “Everyone must feel safe again in our country.”

He announced that “law and order” would be consistently enforced, adding, “The safety of people in Germany will be our top priority.” Merz’s thoughts were with the victims and their families, he said, “I hope they can get through this difficult time and find the necessary strength. My thanks go to the law enforcement officers who are providing help on the scene.”

Meanwhile, the Munich General Public Prosecutor’s Office, in cooperation with the Bavarian Central Office for the Combat of Extremism and Terrorism (ZET), has taken over the investigations from the Munich Criminal Police, as they believe there are indications of an extremist background. The suspected perpetrator in Munich is a 24-year-old Afghan, who came to Germany as an asylum seeker. According to media reports, he was known to the police. He was arrested at the scene, during which a shot was also fired by the police at the suspect’s vehicle.
