Malen’s Departure to Aston Villa Signals New Chapter for the Yellow-Blacks
The news has broken that Borussia Dortmund, a prominent Bundesliga football club, will have to navigate the future without the Dutch attacking midfielder Donyell Malen. On Tuesday, the BVB announced that the forward will be leaving the team and joining Aston Villa, the English Premier League club, with immediate effect.
“We would like to thank Donyell for three and a half years in black and yellow” said Sebastian Kehl, the BVB’s sports director. Although “neither side ultimately fulfilled all the sporting expectations” the club believes they have found a “good solution for everyone.”
Malen joined the BVB from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021. Over the past three and a half years, the Dutch player has featured in 132 matches for the Dortmund team, scoring 39 goals and providing 20 assists.
