Berlin, Germany – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (Social Democratic Party of Germany, SPD) held a phone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Tuesday, according to the government’s press secretary, Steffen Hebestreit. The two leaders reportedly discussed the situation in the Middle East, with the Chancellor expressing gratitude to the Emir for his decisive role in mediating the agreement on the release of hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Among the recently released hostages were three German nationals.
Regarding the situation in Syria, Hebestreit stated that the two leaders agreed that it is now crucial to set in motion an inclusive and transparent transition process. The conversation is seen as a sign of the German government’s continued efforts to engage with international partners in addressing the complex and pressing issues in the region.
