According to a recent survey conducted by Forsa, the CDU/CSU and the SPD have both lost a percentage point in voter support. In the weekly poll for RTL and ntv, the CDU/CSU now hold 27 percent of the vote and the SPD has 14 percent, a one-point decline for both parties.
Meanwhile, the Greens and the AfD have each gained a point, with the AfD’s 23 percent being its highest value since December 2023. The Left, FDP, BSW and other smaller parties have not seen significant changes in their support.
The public’s opinion of CDU leader Friedrich Merz as a potential future Chancellor has continued to decline. Currently, only 34 percent of respondents believe Merz would be a good Chancellor, a four-point drop from the previous week. On the other hand, 58 percent do not think he would be a good Chancellor, a six-point increase.
Majorities of both CDU/CSU and Union supporters still expect Merz to be a good Chancellor, with 74 percent and 19 percent, respectively, holding this view. The survey was conducted from March 11 to 17, with a total of 2,501 respondents. The data on party preferences was collected over the same period. A separate survey of 1,009 people was conducted from March 14 to 17 to gauge opinions on Merz’s potential as Chancellor.
