Berlin, Germany – The negotiations between the Union and the SPD continued on Tuesday, with the third round of talks commencing just before 8 am. According to sources, the focus remains on financial matters. Markus Söder, the CSU leader, described the day as “very important” and expressed hope for a successful outcome, prior to the start of the talks. Otherwise, little information has been released to the public, as the CDU, CSU and SPD had agreed to maintain confidentiality.
Reports suggest that the Bundestag may reconvene in its original composition in the coming week to pass a new special fund for military expenditures, bypassing the debt brake. Additionally, a special fund for infrastructure projects is also being discussed. A reform of the debt brake could be an alternative, but would require a two-thirds majority, likely involving the participation of the Greens.
