BREAKING: Germany Ditches Refugee Protections for Syrian Fleeers

German Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser has presented a four-point plan for dealing with Syrian refugees, which also includes the revocation of protection guarantees. “As our law stipulates, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees will review and revoke protection guarantees if people no longer need this protection in Germany, as the situation in Syria has stabilized” the SPD politician told the Funke Media Group’s Sunday editions.

“This will apply to those who do not have a right of residence for other reasons, such as work or education, and who are not willing to return to Syria voluntarily.” The Foreign Office and the Ministry of the Interior are working together to gain a clearer picture of the situation in Syria, especially after the fall of the Assad regime, Faeser said. “We are focusing primarily on security issues, and we are also coordinating our entire action closely with our European and international partners.”

Three more points were named as important by Faeser. “Firstly, those who are well integrated, work, have learned German, and have found a new home here, should be allowed to stay in Germany.” Secondly, people who wanted to return would be supported, and the Federal program for voluntary return would be expanded. Thirdly, Faeser spoke out in favor of extraditing criminals and Islamists as quickly as possible.

“We have strongly expanded the legal options for this and will use them as soon as the situation in Syria allows it” she said. For the first time in over a decade of terror and violence, there is hope for peace in Syria, Faeser said. “If this hope for peace becomes a reality, then many refugees can also return.
