German tax revenues in Germany were around 6 billion euros higher in 2024 than officially calculated last. A total of 861.1 billion euros were collected by the federal government, states, municipalities and EU taxes, compared to the budgeted 855.2 billion euros. This is according to the new monthly report of the Federal Ministry of Finance, which was published on the morning of the Friday.
In December 2024, tax revenues were approximately 4 percent higher than in the previous year. A very strong increase was seen in federal tax revenues, with a 92 percent surge in income from the withholding tax on interest and capital gains. Significant increases were also recorded in the value-added tax (+11.5 percent), the income tax (+10.8 percent), the payroll tax (+7.1 percent) and the assessed income tax (+0.9 percent). The only federal tax with a decrease in December was the corporate tax, with a minus of 10.8 percent compared to the previous year, the ministry reported.
