BREAKING: Commerzbank Defies the Norm, Abandons Office Quotas Forever!

Commerzbank Sets a New Standard in Flexible Working Arrangements

In a move that sets it apart from its competitors, Commerzbank has announced an unlimited extension of its flexible home office policy, effective October 1, 2025. The bank’s decision to abandon a time-bound approach and instead adopt a permanent hybrid work arrangement is a direct result of the positive experiences it has had since the policy was first introduced.

Initially, Commerzbank allowed a home office quota of up to 70% for many of its employees after the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2024, the bank abolished the quota, allowing teams to self-organize and decide on their own work arrangements, whether in the office or at home. The previous agreement was set to expire on September 30, 2025, but the bank’s management and the works council have now agreed to an unlimited extension.

Commerzbank hopes that this decision will help it stand out in the competition for top talent. “While other companies are reverting to a higher office presence, Commerzbank is positioning itself on the labor market with one of the most modern models for hybrid work” the bank stated in an internal announcement. The bank’s personnel director, Sabine Mlnarsky, described the extension of the existing policy as “a big signal of appreciation and trust in our employees, showing that we believe they will handle the rules responsibly.
