A CDU lawmaker, Julia Klöckner, has expressed a desire to present herself to the AfD faction before the election for the Bundestag presidency. According to a spokesperson for Klöckner, the politician has offered to be available for presentations in each of the factions’ meetings and a spokesperson for the AfD faction confirmed that Klöckner had made the request.
The election for the Bundestag presidency is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, during the new parliament’s constitution and the AfD faction is set to hold a meeting in the morning. However, a scheduling conflict arises as Klöckner is committed to attending the traditional ecumenical church service at the same time. Klöckner’s spokesperson stated that the politician will attend the service and that a presentation at the AfD faction is no longer feasible due to the time conflict.
The AfD, however, has shown flexibility, offering Klöckner an alternative meeting with the faction’s leadership on Monday evening. “If it comes to that, it would be a small and fitting step towards normalization” said the parliamentary business manager, Stephan Brandner, to the Stern. The lawmakers would then make their own decisions on whether to vote for Klöckner.
