Thuringian Minister Katja Wolf Rejects Future Leadership Role in the Party
Thuringia’s Minister of Finance and Chair of the Left Party’s Thuringian branch, Katja Wolf, has declined a future leadership role in the party. “I won’t take on a position in the federal party” Wolf told the Spiegel, adding that “my place is in Thuringia, where I will remain.”
Wolf’s statement comes as the Left Party narrowly failed to enter the German Bundestag. Party Chair Sahra Wagenknecht declined to comment on her own future role, saying that the federal party’s leadership should decide on personnel matters without interference. Wolf expressed her expectation that Wagenknecht will not step down from the party leadership soon, praising the party’s 4.97% result in the Bundestag election as an impressive achievement for a young party.
When asked if Thuringia had become the new power center of the party, Wolf rejected the notion, describing the Thuringian branch as a “responsibility center” rather than a “power center.” She emphasized the need for the party to develop its content and demonstrate political competence in various areas, which can be achieved through its government work in Thuringia.
