BREAKING: 2/3 of Germans Back Merz's Harsh Asylum Plans, Landmark Shift in Migration Policy?

A recent poll by the Insa Institute has found that a significant majority of German citizens support the proposal by CDU chairman Friedrich Merz to tighten asylum laws and reject asylum seekers at the country’s borders. According to the survey, published in the “Bild”newspaper, 66% of respondents agree with the plan, with only 19% opposing it and 6% declining to comment.

Notably, the majority of Union and AfD voters, at 85% and 86% respectively, back the plan. Even among SPD voters, a significant 56% support the proposal, while 30% are opposed. Green party voters, however, show greater skepticism, with 52% rejecting the plan and 30% in favor.

The survey, conducted from January 23 to 24, polled a total of 1,003 eligible voters.
