Bosbach Accuses Rivals in Smear Campaign

Reports have surfaced alleging that Member of the Bundestag Caroline Bosbach (CDU) is facing accusations of financial impropriety, prompting a strong denial from her legal representation. The allegations center around a sum of approximately 2,500 euros potentially misappropriated from party funds.

According to a statement released by her lawyer, Ralf Höcker, the accusations are unfounded and part of a “perfidious revenge campaign” orchestrated by a former employee who was dismissed from Bosbach’s service. This individual had previously signed non-disclosure agreements and accepted the termination without legal recourse, also covering associated legal fees.

Höcker indicated that the former employee, after waiting the three-month period during which Bosbach could have potentially filed a criminal complaint, is now attempting to damage her reputation. He asserted there was “no fake invoice and no damage to the CDU” emphasizing that a campaign worker, reportedly closely associated with the former employee, demonstrably fulfilled all services billed to the CDU. Supporting documentation is available and expected to be a key element in the ongoing investigation. The motive behind this campaign worker’s unusual self-accusation is apparently known and will be revealed during the legal process.

Even should the campaign worker’s claims regarding unfulfilled services be considered in isolation, no financial loss would have been incurred by the CDU, Höcker maintained. This is because Bosbach had previously opted not to submit several thousand euros in personal campaign expenses for reimbursement, funds she was entitled to claim. Furthermore, Bosbach proactively transferred the disputed 2,500 euros back to the CDU to dispel any lingering doubts.

Bosbach’s lawyer urged the CDU to retain this sum, suggesting it could be categorized internally either as a “purported damages repayment” or as a donation from Bosbach, once the party’s own investigation confirms the absence of any actual loss.

The initial reports, which appeared in RTL and Stern on Friday morning, suggested that Bosbach was facing internal accusations of siphoning funds from the party for personal use.

The accusations stem from a self-disclosure to the police by the former CDU employee, alleging the creation of a fraudulent invoice for campaign services totaling 2,500 euros in January 2025. The funds allegedly were withdrawn from the CDU and subsequently delivered to Bosbach at her residence in Bergisch-Gladbach.

The case has reportedly stirred unrest within the CDU Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and relevant documentation has been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cologne.

Bosbach entered the Bundestag this year, securing election in the Rhein Berg direct constituency with 42.2% of the first vote. She is the daughter of long-standing CDU Member of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Bosbach.
