German-Border Controls Yield Significant Results, Authorities Report
Since last September, the German Federal Police has detected 1,271 unauthorized border crossings at the German-Dutch border in Lower Saxony. According to the Federal Police Directorate in Hanover, which released the information on Thursday, a total of 841 individuals were turned back and 46 smugglers were arrested. The border controls are part of the reintroduced internal border controls, which were temporarily reinstated.
In the past four weeks alone, police recorded 110 unauthorized entries and 75 rejections. Notably, 333 warrants for arrest and 22 search warrants were executed, primarily in the extremist or Islamist environment, since the measures began. Authorities are employing flexible tactics to minimize the disruption to border traffic as much as possible.
