US President Donald Trump has once again accused Russia of stealing blueprints for US hypersonic missiles, this time claiming they were stolen during the Obama administration. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated, “Russia got the drawings, some bad person gave them to them. They took them during the Obama administration, not during the Biden administration.”
Trump emphasized that the US will have “super-hypersonic missiles”that are “a step better”and will be available soon. This is not the first time Trump has made such claims, as he announced in May 2020 that the US would be building its own “super-duper-hypersonic missile”which he claimed would be 17 times faster than the world’s fastest missile and have a range of 1,600 kilometers. According to CNN, the weapon was tested in March 2020 and its speed was 17 times the speed of sound.
In the fall of 2023, Trump accused Russia of stealing the blueprints for the “super-duper-missile.”However, the Wall Street Journal reported that the US has made no progress in this area in the last 60 years and that the development of a hypersonic missile is still in its early stages, with a potential start date of 10 years in the future.
The Russian Foreign Ministry responded by saying, “no one can believe”that Washington has such weapons. Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken publicly about the country’s latest weapons, including hypersonic missiles like the Kinschal and Avangard and the completion of tests for the Zirkon hypersonic missile system. Last year, Putin announced the first use of the latest ballistic missile, Oreschnik, in an atom-free hypersonic version in Ukraine, claiming it had already entered mass production.
