Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated prior to a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow that the two countries aim to hold a summit in May. The ministerial meeting on Tuesday served as a preparation for the gathering, with the location of the summit not yet disclosed.
According to Lavrov, Moscow and Beijing are determined to consistently strengthen their bilateral relations. The summits between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping are expected to contribute to the development of the bilateral ties, with the two heads of state enabling a level of relations that has never been achieved before in all areas.
Wang arrived in Russia on Monday and will stay until April 2. Prior to his meetings in Moscow, the minister discussed the relations between Russia and China in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency, emphasizing that the two countries are “friends for all time, never enemies.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping last visited Moscow in 2023. In February 2025, the Kremlin reported on the preparation for reciprocal visits by Putin and Xi in Russia and China. The two leaders recently held a phone conversation.
