Bombshell: Russian IS Supporter Caught at Berlin Airport, Faces Life in Prison

A German national of Russian origin, suspected of supporting a foreign terrorist organization, has been arrested and is now in pre-trial detention.

According to the General Public Prosecutor’s Office, the individual is accused of being a key figure in spreading the ideology of the Islamic State (IS) and translating propaganda materials into Russian and Chechen, allegedly at the behest of the IS.

It is alleged that the suspect planned to travel to the IS’s operational zone, join the group and receive military training. He was apprehended at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on February 20, just before boarding a flight and has been in custody since then.

Initially, a warrant was issued by the Brandenburg an der Havel District Court on February 21 and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation, which was initially led by the General Public Prosecutor’s Office in Brandenburg.

The suspect was presented to the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on Thursday and the judge’s warrant replaced the earlier one issued by the district court.
