A bill to introduce stricter rules in Germany’s migration policy is set to be submitted to the Bundestag this Wednesday by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. According to a report by the Bild newspaper, Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz reached an agreement with the leaders of CDU and CSU on Sunday night to introduce the bill, along with two resolutions, to the Bundestag next week.
The proposed bill is reportedly necessary to practically implement central demands, including turning back migrants at Germany’s borders if they come from secure neighboring countries. Additionally, the federal police are set to receive expanded competencies, particularly for arrests and deportations.
During a campaign appearance in Heek, Münsterland, on Sunday, Merz announced the plan, saying, “It’s no longer enough to describe the problems. We must solve them.”He also tempered expectations of quick results, stating, “This won’t happen overnight.
