German politician Bodo Ramelow, the former Minister-President of Thuringia and newly elected member of the Bundestag for the Left, has expressed an open stance towards reforming the debt brake.
” The debt brake is an investment brake” he told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”. “We need, however, a clever investment planning and direction, particularly in the rail infrastructure. Therefore, we will never stand in the way of a reform of the debt brake. It should, however, go hand in hand with the abolition of the cooperation ban in the education sector.”
Ramelow added: “American Vice President J.D. Vance has, at the Munich Security Conference, cancelled the NATO. Therefore, we must rebuild the German military into a homeland defense force.” This necessity, however, is not a reason for the reform of the debt brake.
