Following a distinguished career spanning nearly two decades, veteran German international Jerome Boateng has announced his retirement from professional football. The announcement was made via a video released on his Instagram account on Friday.

Boateng, a key figure in German football for many years, most recently played for Austrian side Linzer ASK, from which he dissolved his contract in August. His career included spells with Hamburger SV, Manchester City and a significant tenure with FC Bayern Munich, where he made 229 appearances between 2011 and 2021.

The defender earned 76 caps for the German national team, scoring one goal and was an integral part of the squad that secured the World Cup title in Brazil in 2014, marking the pinnacle of his international achievements.
