A man was taken into custody by the police at Hamburg’s main train station on Friday after multiple people were attacked with a knife, the authorities announced in the evening.

According to the police, no further information on the identity of the suspect was initially provided. Meanwhile, the NDR reported, citing the fire department, that a total of twelve people were injured in the attack. Three people are in a life-threatening condition, three are seriously hurt and six suffered light injuries.

The authorities believe the attacker to be a lone individual and the motive behind the attack remains unknown at this time.
