Columbian President Gustavo Petro has spoken out against the United States and the European Union in a recent online post. The president’s comments were in response to a potential natural resources agreement between the US and Ukraine. Petro accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of being manipulated by Western European powers, stating that he is “going in the direction of Hitler or nothing.”
In the same post, Petro claimed that the Ukrainians are now fighting against their Slavic brothers and that Zelenskyy is ultimately giving away Ukraine to the North Americans. He repeated that this is a foolish decision.
The president’s comments were in response to a media report that Ukraine and the US had reached an agreement on the details of the natural resources deal after a long period of negotiations. The deal had been the subject of a heated dispute in recent days, with Zelenskyy initially refusing to sign the agreement.
According to reports, the agreement provides for the establishment of an investment fund, majority-owned by the US, in which 50% of the profits from natural resource sales would be channeled. The agreement also grants the US access to Ukraine’s oil and natural gas reserves, as well as rare earth minerals important for high-tech production.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is expected to visit the White House on Friday, where he will sign the document personally with US President Trump, as announced by Trump.
