German Trade Federation Demands Economic Shift
The President of the German Trade Federation, Dirk Jandura, has called on the future government to steer the economy back onto a growth path. The federation, along with other business associations, has launched a “Wirtschaftswarntag”(Economic War Day) to raise awareness about the economic situation in Germany.
Jandura expressed concerns that the economic situation in Germany has not received sufficient attention in the public eye and during the election campaign. “Our impression is that the economic situation in our country is not being given the attention it deserves in the public perception and in the election campaign”he said in an interview with the Mediengruppe Bayern.
The federation is signaling a need for a change in economic policy, citing rising insolvencies, increasing unemployment and the potential for a third recession. Jandura emphasized that the country is in a deep economic crisis, but many people may not yet be aware of it. As a result, the federation has decided to take a stand and demand a change.
Regarding the threat of high US tariffs, Jandura expressed skepticism, stating that the federation does not expect such a development. He also criticized the tactic of using threats, saying, “We should not be intimidated by such threats. In the last term of President Trump, it did not turn out as badly as announced. He is a master of making announcements to create fear and achieve better deals.”
Jandura recommends a more assertive approach, advising against panic and instead urging a focus on the country’s strengths and a willingness to negotiate. Despite the challenges posed by the Trump administration, the German export sector has actually grown in recent years.
