Berlin House Fire Kills Two Suspected Murder

A devastating fire has claimed the lives of two men in Berlin-Marzahn, prompting a criminal investigation into suspected arson. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at approximately 3:00 AM on Hornetweg, completely destroying a semi-detached house.

Local residents alerted police and fire services, who responded swiftly to the scene. During firefighting and rescue operations, emergency responders discovered the bodies of two men, believed to be adults, although their identities have yet to be definitively confirmed.

Four other men managed to escape the blaze. Three, aged 33, 38 and 45, were able to flee, while two sustained significant injuries requiring hospitalization. One of the injured remains in critical condition. The property was occupied at the time of the fire by eight construction workers as a temporary residence.

The 8th Criminal Investigation Department of the State Criminal Police Office and the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office have assumed responsibility for the investigation, initially treating the incident as a potential case of murder, both completed and attempted. Preliminary investigations suggest no indication of a politically or religiously motivated crime. The investigation is ongoing.
