Berlin Brandenburg Fuel Prices Hit Record High

Motorists in Berlin and Brandenburg are currently facing the highest fuel prices in Germany, according to a recent analysis by the ADAC (German Automobile Club). Brandenburg registers the highest average price for gasoline, while Berlin leads the nation in diesel costs.

The ADAC’s evaluation reveals a significant regional disparity. Drivers in Saarland benefit from the lowest nationwide price for Super E10 gasoline, averaging 1.606 euros per liter. In contrast, the same liter costs 1.688 euros in Brandenburg – a difference of 8.2 cents. The price gap is even more pronounced for diesel, with a 9.6-cent difference between Rhineland-Palatinate, where the average price is 1.533 euros per liter and Berlin, where it reaches 1.629 euros.

The ADAC notes that Berlin’s position as having the most expensive diesel is unusual, given the city’s typically high density of gas stations which often correlate with lower prices, suggesting potential for price reductions. Furthermore, the relatively small price difference between Super E10 and diesel-approximately two cents-in Berlin stands out compared to the customary six to ten cent discrepancy observed in other federal states.

The ADAC recommends that drivers compare prices before refueling. Evening refueling generally offers savings, with prices averaging around 13 cents lower than in the morning. The club advises against using gas stations located directly on autobahns (motorways), where consumers typically pay over 40 cents more per liter compared to off-highway stations.
