Berlin Hit by Severe Storm, One Fatality Reported
A severe storm that swept through Berlin on Monday has claimed at least one life, with three others left in a critical condition, according to the city’s fire department. The fatal incident occurred when a falling tree struck a moving vehicle.
Since the storm’s onset in the afternoon, the Berlin Fire Department has responded to numerous weather-related emergency calls, with over 500 alarms reported by 8:30 pm. The majority of the calls were related to fallen branches, loose building materials and uprooted trees, with the majority of the incidents quickly resolved.
All B-Units of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department were activated to support the emergency responses, with three notable incidents reported. In Spandau, a person was seriously injured when a tree fell on their vehicle. In Tegel, a person was injured in a forest area by falling branches and was airlifted to a hospital by a rescue helicopter. In Dahlem, a cyclist was struck by a fallen tree and suffered severe injuries.
The storm’s impact was felt across the city, with no specific hotspots reported, as the fire department worked to clear the hazards and ensure public safety.
