Berlin Arrests Suspected Hamas Plotters

German authorities have arrested three individuals suspected of belonging to a foreign terrorist organization with ties to Hamas in Berlin. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the preliminary arrests took place on Wednesday.

The individuals detained include two German citizens and a man originally from Lebanon. They are alleged to be operatives of Hamas, accused of procuring firearms and ammunition from Germany for the organization starting at least this summer. The prosecution alleges the weapons were intended for planned attacks targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions within Germany.

During the arrests, a significant quantity of weaponry was seized, including an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols and a large volume of ammunition. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office plans to petition the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice on October 2nd to request arrest warrants for the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
