Belarus has offered to mediate between Ukraine and Russia once again. In an exclusive interview with US blogger Mario Nawfal, President Alexander Lukashenko expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis. In a video published on the X platform on Wednesday, Lukashenko stated, “Trump is a brave man. He often talks about the Ukraine war and even does something to stop it and the war in the Middle East.”
Lukashenko appeared optimistic, praising Trump’s peace initiatives as “brilliant.” He expressed his willingness to support Trump and do everything possible to stop the war and improve the lives of people, stressing that he is ready to sit down and negotiate without noise and commotion.
The Belarusian leader took the opportunity to invite Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin to peace talks in Minsk. He noted that the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, is only 200 kilometers from the Belarusian border and that the flight time is just half an hour.
“We will sit down and agree without noise and commotion” Lukashenko said. “So, please, inform Trump of this: I am waiting for him here, together with Putin and Zelenskyy.”
Lukashenko emphasized that Putin is hesitant to engage in peace talks and that it is essential to convince Trump to also negotiate with Zelenskyy, as a significant part of Ukrainian society supports him.
Belarus’s proposal received support from Russia. Following the interview, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitri Peskow stated at a press briefing in Moscow that Minsk is the best location for negotiations, as Belarus is Russia’s most important ally. Peskow also mentioned that this proposal has not yet been officially discussed.
