Grünen-Bundesvorsitzender Felix Banaszak receives support from his party for calling for the initiation of an AfD-Verbotsverfahren. Banaszak urges for the process to be carried out soon, “before it’s too late.”
According to the parliamentary management of the Green Bundestag faction, Irene Mihalic, this is not an alarmist statement but rather a realistic assessment. With regards to the 151 AfD members of the German Bundestag, Mihalic states to RTL and ntv: “We are dealing with an AfD that is now definitively classified as a right-wing extremist party and is gaining more and more in terms of votes.”
The opinion of the federal constitutional protection agency, which led to the classification of the party, serves as a “key component” for Mihalic. Many public sources have been evaluated for this. “If one delves a little deeper, additional elements can be gathered that make a party ban likely” Mihalic explains. This is now the task at hand.
