Bavaria is maintaining its current school holiday schedule, resisting calls for adjustments to synchronize with other German states. Martin Huber, General Secretary of the Christian Social Union (CSU), affirmed the state’s firm position in an interview with the “Rheinische Post”.
Huber stated that Bavaria’s vacation dates will remain unchanged, emphasizing that other states are free to coordinate their schedules amongst themselves if they so desire. He further elaborated that the summer holidays are deeply ingrained in Bavarian culture and tradition, jokingly characterizing them as “part of the Bavarian DNA.
The current system, in place until 2030, sees 14 German states rotating their summer holiday dates annually, starting at different times. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are exceptions to this arrangement, consistently commencing their summer break at the end of July. Discussions regarding potential changes to the system, particularly from states like North Rhine-Westphalia seeking later start dates, have been ongoing.
