Katarina Barley, a Vice-President of the European Parliament, has dismissed speculation linking her to a potential appointment as a judge at Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe.
In a statement to the “Rheinische Post”, Ms. Barley indicated her continued commitment to her current role within the European Parliament. “As a general principle, I do not comment on personnel matters” she said, adding, “But regarding my own position, I can say that I still have a lot to do in Europe.
The statement follows the recent unsuccessful election of Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf to the court. While the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has identified a new candidate, their name is currently being kept confidential. Recent discussions within Berlin had included Ms. Barley, a former German Justice Minister, as a potential nominee.
