Bas aims to rebuild the party following the February election defeat and focuses on social justice, educational equality and a diverse society. She emphasizes her own background as an education success story. The designated SPD General Secretary, Tim Klüssendorf, urges the party to first address its “homework” referring to the poor performance in the previous federal election and the need for improvement in the party’s programmatic approach. He believes the SPD should be “visible from its own strength” and work on balancing its role in the coalition government with sharpening its ideological profile.
