Bundesarbeitsministerin Bärbel Bas (SPD) has resigned from her board position at Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM). Bas stated in an interview with the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday, “I have resigned my board position at HKM effective immediately, as this is not permissible under the Federal Minister Act in light of my future role as a member of the federal government.” However, Bas also expressed her commitment to continuing to advocate for steel jobs in her hometown of Duisburg, particularly at HKM. Thyssenkrupp plans to close HKM if no investor can be found, which would put 3,000 HKM jobs in Duisburg at risk.
