Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) Warned of a Disorientation of the Population.
People needed “security”and “orientation”now, she said on Sunday at the Green Party convention in Berlin. She criticized the Chancellor candidates Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Olaf Scholz (SPD), saying they were “completely losing their nerve”at the moment. Merz, she claimed, was unsettling his party and the country with “grandstanding”and “hysteria”.
“Safety means protecting every child in Germany”, Baerbock said, looking at the two-year-old Moroccan boy who was killed in Aschaffenburg. However, the execution of the law seemed to be failing in cases of mentally unstable offenders.
The Green Party politician also criticized the current debate on migration policy. This, she said, must be a terrible feeling for the people in Aschaffenburg, many of whom have a migration history. Children of migrant workers from the guest worker generation were asking if they were still wanted. “Germany would come to a standstill if these people didn’t show up to work for a day”, Baerbock said.
Referring to concrete measures, the Foreign Minister mentioned the national implementation of the Geas reform and the security package. She sharply criticized the CDU for continuing to block these measures. “Is that a matter of government responsibility?”, she asked.
